Innovative science and engineering programs that open pathways to bright futures, successful careers, and a better world.
Bioengineering is poised to reshape our future, creating new industries, driving economies, and improving our foods, medicines, and climate.
Created by an award-winning team from MIT, Bio-Builders empowers teachers and schools to better serve students and employers by elevating the skills that students are taught. Founded in 2011, Bio-Builders has grown to partner with schools in almost every state and around the world. Bio-Builders builds confidence in teachers to learn and apply the synthetic biology curricula, and provides laboratory kits and an openly accessible textbook that enable experiential learning.
Bio-Builders also works directly with district and community leaders to identify potential roadblocks to narrow the gap between science innovation and science education — at least for biology – across the U.S., and better match the skill of our nation’s workforce to the needs of the synthetic biology industry.
Bio-Builders is dedicated to helping students
Bio-Builders taps into the potential of high school students and their teachers to be world changers. We do this by teaching them to build with biology. DNA is the programming language for a cell, instructing it to make things that can mitigate climate change, alleviate food insecurity, and produce renewable energy and clean water. Bio-Builders’s roots are in the undergraduate major for Biological Engineering at MIT.
